Job Summary (Substation - Civil) This position is part of the Substation Engineering group and is responsible for the design of new and existing distribution and transmission substations from 4kV through 500kV. Projects range from routine equipment modifications and installations to the complete design of new substations. The position requires the individual to be able to manage work between multiple projects simultaneously to ensure timely release of engineering designs. The individual will utilize a variety of tools and techniques to complete an engineering design, including current design specifications, pertinent code manuals, computer aided design/drafting software, and other reference sources. Our Transportation team works on a wide variety of projects such as widening, intersections, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, roundabouts, greenways, and urban sidewalks. Essential Functions: Serve as the Project Engineer for transportation design projects. Prepare horizontal and vertical alignments as well as roadway plans production utilizing Microstation, Geopak, OpenRoads and 3D-Modeling. Provide technical assistance with the development of sidewalk, greenway, and roadway design plans. Assist with and participate in the development of the work plan; assign work activities, projects, and programs; monitor workflow; review and evaluate work products, methods and procedures. Assist in the preparation of cost estimates, project implementation schedules, funding plans, project objectives, and analysis of project benefits. Microstation, ORD, or AutoCad Civil 3D software skills preferred. Completion of the Engineering-in-Training exam is strongly encouraged. Work experience or familiarity with NCDOT or projects in NC.
