University of Iowa Health Care Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism is seeking a PA/ARNP Hospitalist to provide medical care and management for inpatients and outpatients with diabetes; exercising autonomy in medical decision-making and services provided, under the supervision of staff physicians in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism. Function independently and/or as a member of an interdisciplinary team to plan, deliver, and evaluate health care for inpatients and outpatients with diabetes. Communicate diabetes regimen changes to primary team and nursing staff. Review, add, discontinue and/or modify diabetes orders in EMR. Document the effectiveness of current diabetes regimen in the medical record using subjective and objective data. Establish the diabetes follow-up plan to expedite discharge. Consult dietitians and diabetes educators as appropriate. Provide consultation to the diabetes educators regarding after discharge follow-up of blood sugar control. Participate in the development, utilization and evaluation of resources to meet patient and family educational needs. Assure clinical competency and expertise in diabetes management. Collaborate with medical, nursing, nutrition, and other health professionals to monitor and evaluate the quality of care of hospitalized patients with diabetes. Compliance with Internal Policies and External Regulations for Safe and Effective Care Delivery and Health Profession and Education Accurately and appropriately complete documentation of patient care in the EMR and other records for compliance, billing and other regulatory standards. Participate and/or lead in quality, safety, and process improvement activities.
