Develops and recommends remedial actions as appropriate.Reviews and responds to Reasonable Accommodation requests.Collaborates in preparing studies and analyses of transit service options and opportunities concerning the local disability community and related populations.Periodically reviews the VIAtrans Service Design Standards and recommends Policy and Procedural changes as appropriate.Participates in the periodic review and update of the VIA Accessible Transportation Customer Guide.Meets on a regular basis with the Manager of Paratransit Operations to review performance data and discuss options for direct and contract service delivery improvements.Meets on a regular basis with the Manager of Bus Service Operations to review service delivery issues related to line service passengers who are disabled.Meets on an as-needed basis with the Manager of Employment and Testing to review issues related to the recruitment and evaluation of candidates who are disabled.Serves as chair of the committee to consider Employee Accommodation requests.Meets on an as-needed basis with the Legal Department to discuss impacts of new regulations, regulatory findings and case law.Meets on an as-needed basis with other VIA managers to review and discuss issues related to the design of accessible programs and facilities; employment accommodations; customer outreach; and similar situations.Prepares and delivers reports to senior management regarding actual or proposed changes to federal, state and local requirements related to transit service accessibility.Participates in the development of agendas and presentation materials for quarterly meetings of the Ad Hoc Accessible Services Advisory Committee.Participates in the development of agendas and presentation materials for quarterly VIAtrans Forum meetings.Consults with staff at peer systems to discuss trends, problems and opportunities related to the design and delivery of transit service for persons who are disabled.Represents VIA on external committees related to the transportation of persons who are elderly and/or disabled and prepares reports and recommendations to the VIA Leadership Group as needed.Prepares and delivers public presentations related to VIA services in general and accessibility initiatives in particular.Hires, supervises and evaluates all departmental staff.Directs the activities of the Functional Assessment contractor.Maintains a positive and exemplary attitude with regard to customer service, safety and productivity; VIA initiatives to promote equality of opportunity and treatment; and all policies contained in the VIA Employee Manual.This job description excludes marginal functions that are incidental to performing the job. Other duties may exist.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience with programs or services targeted to persons who are disabled or an equivalent combination. Supervisory experience preferred.
