DESCRIPTIONProject Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. The Kuiper Software group is responsible for all production software at Kuiper. The Software Health Automation team owns the Kuiper Software lab and provides lab as a fully managed service. We make it possible to develop, build and test the code on real hardware. In this role, you will design, build and maintain the lab infrastructure. You will be hands on, making sure lab environments are highly available, while scaling team’s processes to ensure long term success. You will work hand in hand with development teams from software and hardware as well as program management and other stakeholders to make sure we can rapidly deliver high quality software.Key job responsibilities* Design, set up and maintain test fixtures to verify software on real hardware* Write software and scripts for operations to keep things running and highly available* Troubleshoot software and hardware problems with pre-production equipment* Contribute to engineering efforts from design to implementation, solving complex technical challenges around developer and engineering productivity and velocity especially as it relates to rapid test iteration* Design and build advanced automated build, test and release infrastructure* Drive adoption of best practices in code health, testing, and maintainabilityExport Control Requirement:Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.A day in the lifeThe successful applicant will be experienced in keeping technical infrastructure running smoothly and balancing high priority issues. You should be comfortable taking on ambiguous challenges like setting up new pre-production hardware for the first time. You should be able to define SOPs, metrics and alarms to keep equipment and test infrastructure highly available and expand the teams capabilities over time. You will be invaluable to enabling the team to move quickly and confidently with robust verification frameworks that scale with our systems.About the teamThe Kuiper Software Health Automation team owns labs, tools and software for verifying the quality of our networking equipment before release. This software will be operating both on the ground and in space. The team raises our high quality bar before our software reaches customers.We are open to hiring candidates to work out of one of the following locations:Redmond, WA, USABASIC QUALIFICATIONS- 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar technical field.- 2+ years of experience in any of the following: test lab support, operational hardware support- 2+ years of experience with test automation, debugging, building test tools and testing frameworks- 2+ years of experience working with Linux based systems- 2+ years of experience in computer networking (admin level)PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS- - Highly autonomous, very detail oriented, and willing to learn new skills- - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and an ability to interact efficiently with peers and customers is required- - The desire and ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment is essential- - Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, evaluate alternatives and develop processes and tools as needed to support the organization- - Knowledge of industry standard test automation tools and experience in developing product test harnesses and instrumenting products to gather test results- - Experience creating and expanding powerful automated testing tools and frameworksAmazon is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace. The base pay for this position ranges from $103,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $201,200/year in our highest geographic market.
