OverviewWe are seeking a full-time Senior Mechanical Engineer on our Automotive OEM design team in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for providing advanced engineering skills and project planning for mechanical or electromechanical solutions. Garmin designs and manufactures infotainment and related vehicle electronics for Automotive OEMs such as BMW, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, and Toyota.Here are some examples of technology that Garmin is enabling for their OEM customers: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3Wsxv9DM3HWfl1LyDEDQf5SArXbf7kWW Essential FunctionsAble to complete the most difficult tasks as a Master CAD-user including the completion of complex mechanical designsKnowledge of injection molding, die casting, sheet metal stamping, machining, material requirements, material performance, material limitations, etc.Specify test plans, mock up and test complex mechanical systems with complex performance requirements to validate and verify compliance with design requirementsManage basic tradeoffs, determine risk mitigation plans, determine project goal/objective feasibility, provide technical input to product development plans/concept documents, and drive process vendors to evaluate complex mechanical designs and understand riskLead explorations of new technologies and make estimates on moderately complex mechanical designs including: tooling, part cost, and design timeKnowledge of Industry and Garmin product qualification tests (environmental and others)Provide reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques and offer process improvements and author new proceduresBasic QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Aerospace Engineering AND a minimum of 5 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experienceExcellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)Demonstrated knowledge and capability to use CAD software for completing complex mechanical designsDemonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skillsDesired QualificationsExpert CAD user in CATIAExperience in Automotive, Aviation, Medical or other high-reliability industryThermal design experience for electronics cooling including integration of fans, heat sinks, vapor chambers and liquid cold platesPrior experience working with external customersProficient in interpretation and application of GD&TElectronic packaging / electronic enclosure design experienceGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
