Process Engineer - Mechanical Assembly

OverviewWe are seeking a full-time Process Engineer 1 in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for creating basic tooling, routings, and basic process instructions in a team-oriented environment.The Mechanical Assembly Team (MAT) is responsible for the unit level assembly and packaging of Garmin products. Most of the units are assembled in a work cell environment by manual methods of assembly. The Process Engineer's main responsibility is to design work areas that produce the highest quality product, in the shortest amount of time, using the most economical method, while delivering a product that exceeds the customer's expectations. Essential Functions Utilize knowledge of CAD software to create basic tooling, develop basic process instructions, and create routingsAttend DFT training and demonstrate understanding of Lean PhilosophyGain knowledge of and demonstrate understanding of ECO implementationIdentify and resolve defects of basic scope using proper engineering tools and techniquesParticipate in Design Reviews with senior members of the process engineering teamCommunicate status of work clearly providing visibility to supervisor or mentor and may be responsible for planning own technical workApply design standards and procedures using appropriate engineering tools to document and implement basic designs/tasks/projects in an organized mannerAbility to travel domestically and internationally on occasionResearch and develop new, cutting edge automation conceptsDesign, test and validate all aspects of the mechanical designModel moderately complex parts and assemblies in 3D CAD softwareIndependently determine general approach and specific solutions to technical problems Apply knowledge of production and operations processes to overall designInteract with product design engineers to incorporate Design for Manufacturability principles and interface with outside teams/individuals to ensure all solutions comply with product design specificationsGenerate revision-controlled design and user documentationProject manage and collaborate with fellow project stakeholdersConduct training for equipment operators and maintenance techniciansTroubleshoot, support and continuously improve existing automated solutionsBasic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or related engineering field OR an equivalent combination of education and experienceExcellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsDemonstrated capability for applying industry standards and procedures to develop, implement, and document operational processesAbility to learn how to use and apply engineering toolsMust demonstrate the capability to perform basic troubleshooting & debuggingDesired Qualifications Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)Previous work or internship experience working in a manufacturing environmentExperience using 2D and 3D CAD design software (AutoCAD, Solidworks)Design experience with fixturing, pneumatics, sensors and safety controlsWorking knowledge of modern machining and rapid prototyping capabilitiesGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer. OverviewWe are seeking a full-time Process Engineer 1 in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for creating basic tooling, routings, and basic process instructions in a team-oriented environment.The Electrical Engineering Team (EET) is responsible for the calibration and performance verification processes for Garmin products produced in the Olathe, KS facility. The units are typically calibrated and tested using automated equipment due to the quantity and complexity of the test steps. The Process Engineer's responsibility is to assemble and maintain the test equipment and procedures, while monitoring test metrics to identify opportunities to improve throughput.
