Software Engineer - Aviation Performance

OverviewWe are seeking a full-time Software Engineer for our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for developing moderately complex software and creating and executing designs for small sets of new functionalities for Garmin products and/or applications. The Performance team develops new and exciting advanced features that model the aircrafts performance during all phases of flight in order to estimate the runway distance required for safe takeoff and landing. Additionally, we compute desired speed and the resulting time and fuel needed to reach the destination. This is an area where there is considerable innovation within the aviation industry as it relates to Air Traffic Control spacing between aircraft. We also work closely w/ Garmin's connected datalink services so the crew has a seamless experience between preflight planning and what they see in the cockpit when they get on board. Finally, we develop a standby flight display function that displays essential primary flight information to the crew in the event of a primary display failure. Essential Functions Assist in the mentoring/coaching of new and less-experienced department associatesAnswer customer and installer technical inquiries regarding Garmin products via telephone, letter, fax, and e-mailTravel to customers' facilities to provide on-site support of avionics installations and troubleshooting as requiredArrange for return for factory repair of customer equipment and arrange for exchange of out-of-box failures of Garmin equipmentAct as liaison between customer and associates of other departments within Garmin and monitor, document, and report failure trends in Garmin equipmentIdentify/recommend improvements in Garmin products, documentation, and proceduresReview special circumstances and authorize warranty service when deemed appropriateReview pilot's guides, installation manuals, and maintenance manuals for completeness, technical accuracy, and areas likely to be misinterpretedProvide advanced level of support to fellow associates/Garmin customers by serving as the SME (Subject Matter Expert) for one of more Garmin avionic productsServe as a point of contact and liaise between Engineering and the customer, distributor, or FSE in support of any products with SME responsibilitiesAble to travel, coordinate, and represent Garmin at industry and professional meetings, trade shows and conferencesAbility to be on a rotation for 24/7 aviation technical support coverageAssist Senior FSE with mentoring/coaching of less experienced Field Service EngineersBasic Qualifications Associate's Degree or equivalent military/trade school OR a minimum of 4 years relevant experienceMust have served as a Garmin Field Service Engineer 1 for 2 years OR must have a minimum of 2 years experience with providing field service supportMust possess a minimum of 4 years experience in avionics installation and troubleshootingDemonstrated a high level of strong/effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills to work across functional and organizational linesMust demonstrate a superior customer-oriented attitudeMust demonstrate broad knowledge of aircraft systems and avionic sub-systemsMust possess proficiency using personal computers and Microsoft OfficeMust possess the ability to LRU level troubleshoot and repair various avionic systemsMust be positive, detail oriented, organized, team oriented and a driven problem solver with proven success in solving difficult problems, multi-tasker, and self-starter with the ability to prioritize and work proactively in a fast paced, deadline-driven environmentDesired Qualifications Previous avionics experience in an aircraft maintenance facility and/or an aircraft manufacturing environmentPilot's LicenseExperience troubleshooting and installing Garmin avionics systemsGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
