Essential FunctionsAct as the subject matter expert to provide technical leadership, mentoring, and guidance for safety critical systems to a cross functional teamPerform market trade studies and engage in evolving industry standards for conventional and indirect flight controlsDrive technology evaluation and tradeoffs at a system level for computing platforms, data networks, and actuationWork with a cross functional team to develop lab infrastructure for evaluation of new technologiesEstablish and mature processes and standards for development, test, and certification of highly critical flight control systemsCreate life cycle plans for development and certification of high criticality systemsUnderstand and drive design decisions based on a strong understanding of certification and regulatory guidance and requirements for both systems and softwareWork with aircraft OEMs to understand aircraft integration of system components and design constraintsWork with certification authorities to establish certification criteria for flight critical systems as they apply to new technologies or new marketsBasic Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Math, Physics, Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering AND a minimum of 14 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experienceExcellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)Experience using MatLab or Simulink design toolsFluency and understanding of C programming languageDemonstrates understanding of system architectures and the effects on the control systemPilot's License or demonstrated knowledge of piloting skills and proceduresDemonstrated strong and effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skillsDesired Qualifications Outstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)Software development experience, including understanding of DO-178C requirementsAvionics hardware development experienceUnderstanding of applicable certification standards and guidance including: Systems (ARP 4754-A), Safety (ARP 4761), Software (DO-178C), Model Based Design (DO-331)Understanding of industry standards for embedded platforms (TSO C153), operating systems (ARINC 653), and networks (ARINC 429/664/825)Garmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
