Overview Summit Materials Cement Segment Director of Technical Services is responsible for managing and leading a team of Technical Service Engineers to support cement commercial team customers. Supported by multiple concrete laboratories which have direct oversight by this role, the concrete and masonry laboratories provide product testing to proactively support cement operations to validate product performance to achieve market and customer demands. This role will work closely with Logistics, Commercial, Cement Technical Service, and Manufacturing teams regarding customer satisfaction and regulatory agency acceptance. Role & Responsibilities Safety leadership in technical areas including management of concrete laboratories aligned with Summit Material's Mission, Vision and Values. Provide proactive consultation to cement commercial group customers in the areas of product performance, mix optimizations, best practices, technical information research, troubleshooting, and technical training. Manages team of Technical Service Engineers including managers of concrete laboratories and masonry cement laboratories. Act as liaison between sales and production on plant quality teams. Proactively participate in promotion efforts relating to cement based and related products in coordination with Sales team. Coordinate and facilitate competitive analyses for establishment and review of internal quality objectives. Provide internal technical training to the cement commercial sales force. Critical tasks include gathering and prioritizing customer requirements, working closely with Sales, Marketing, Cement Technical Services, Supply Chain, Finance, and Operations to ensure profitability and sustainability goals for the division. Provide pricing guidance to the sales team, document rationale, and approve pricing decisions in the CRM. Responsible for the optimization and management of product mix and pricing for asset efficiency and maximum value/ margin extraction. Drive opportunity assessment with regards to prioritization, justification of investment, and business case development. Create reports and cadence to communicate customer, market, and division level pricing changes as it relates to competitive activity and market demand. Understands the market and the industry, competitors, trends, technology, consumer behaviors, business model and competitive constraints. Determine Marketing and product requirements to optimize revenue and profitability by understanding the customer target audience and pain points, while coordinating activities to identify and promote product advantages and correct product disadvantages. Manages product planning and development through collaboration with cross-functional team members, developers, product owners, architects, and stakeholders to ensure product is fit for market. Partners with UX designers to conduct user research, define and user-test feature prototypes. Drives product discovery, iterative learning, and analyzes the product usage data to set priorities and acceptance criteria for various product owners.
