ABOUT THE ROLE: The Materials and Process Development Engineer will play a critical role in the development of new materials and print process parameters for polymer materials on 3D Systems selective laser sintering (SLS) printers. The print process development team is part of the materials development group and plays a critical role in the integration of various system components, including hardware, software, and materials. This position is located at 3D Systems headquarters in Rock Hill, SC. WHAT YOU'LL DO: Conduct daily research and development with SLS printers and materials; this is a primarily in-lab position and regular remote work is not available. Hands on operation of all aspects of the print process, including setup, printing, and post-processing of parts. Work closely with both hardware and software teams to develop the print process for all current and future SLS materials and systems. -This includes identifying and helping to resolve issues with hardware, software, and firmware to deliver an extraordinary product to our customers. Research and understand material properties and collaborate with new and existing suppliers to meet business roadmap objectives. Identify main process parameters (inputs) and systemically study how they affect printer outputs (both quantitative and qualitative). Conduct formal DOE studies and statistical data analysis using tools such as JMP, Minitab, QuantumXL, etc. S ummarize data and create reports for both technical teams and senior/executive management. Work safely and efficiently in a lab setting with minimal supervision WHAT YOU'LL NEED: A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a technical field such as Materials Science and Engineering (MSE), Chemistry, or Chemical Engineering is required. Related disciplines will also be considered with relevant experience. 1-2 years' experience working with selective laser sintering or other additive manufacturing processes is preferred. Experience with DOE tools and statistical techniques is strongly preferred. Experience managing a flexible daily schedule based on business demands and priorities. Salary will depend on experience level and the range is approximately $80,000 - $100,000 / year.Requirements:Must have either a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Industrial EngineeringMust have 4+ years of experience in an industrial engineering or logistics/supply chain engineering position within a high-volume manufacturing environmentMust have experience with material flow/storage solutions, freight network optimization, facility layout and process design, time and cost studies, and supply chain/logistics performance monitoring and forecasting within a manufacturing plantAutomotive manufacturing experience preferredPrior experience with SAP software strongly preferred; must have intermediate skills in MS Office/ExcelExperience with or certification in Lean Manufacturing is a plusKnowledge of AIAG/VDA standards, Visio, and 2D Modeling software strongly preferredMust be eligible to work in the U.S. (without sponsorship)Job duties:Analysis and implementation of supply chain improvement initiatives, including designing and implementing material flow and storage strategies based on Lean Manufacturing methodologies.Improve flow of parts with suppliers, third-party logistics partners, and customers to achieve better cycle times and reduced costs.Establish, maintain, and communicate material flow specifications, and coordinate resolution of internal and external issues.Develop and maintain KPIs to measure and improve material flow from suppliers, to production operations and to customers.Assist with or lead systematic and physical logistics ramp-ups for new program launches.Perform logistics cost calculations, time studies, and costing studies.Support implementation of Lean Manufacturing practices, and ensure compliance with IATF 16949 quality standards.Will have the opportunity to assist with new automation and AI-controlled automation projects.
