Teaching Professor of Public and Professional Writing (online and in-person) The Department of English at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a Teaching Professor to join its active and innovative Composition program. The person who is hired will begin on a five-year renewable contract, starting in the fall term of 2024. The teaching load is 3/3 (with both online and in-person courses), plus expected services such as administrative or committee work and advising undergraduate research. This position is undergraduate-focused and outside the tenure track, and it has paths to leadership positions as well as five-year renewable contracts. The Composition program–one of four constituent programs in English (Literature, Creative Writing, and Film and Media Studies)–offers an array of first-year composition courses and general education Writing courses, and a Public and Professional Writing major and certificate. PPW courses also count toward the Media and Professional Communication major, which is housed in the College of General Studies. Our courses are also integral to the Digital Narrative and Interactive Design joint major with the School of Computing and Information, the Public Communication of Science and Technology certificate, and an interdisciplinary Disability Studies Certificate. We value flexible teachers who can create engaging courses that respond to the needs of our programs and to school-wide general education requirements. We seek to hire a Teaching Professor who will teach intermediate and advanced Public and Professional Writing courses in both online and in-person formats: four online courses a year for students in the College of General Studies and two in-person courses for students in the Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences. The successful candidate will have significant professional experience in public relations and/or advertising, experience teaching undergraduates how to write for PR and advertising, and experience successfully designing and teaching asynchronous online writing courses. The person in this position can expect to teach Persuasive Writing in Advertising, Public Relations Writing, Professional Uses of Social Media, Written Professional Communication, and more. The French Program of the Department of French and Italian at the University of Pittsburgh seeks a full-time visiting lecturer of French to teach three 3-credit courses in each term in the academic year 2024-25. Outside the tenure stream, the position may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance for up to two years.?Course duties may include elementary and intermediate-level courses in the language sequence, more advanced courses in literature, culture, and conversation (taught in French), and general education courses taught in English for a broad audience.
