GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT: This lab investigates the molecular and cellular causes of a genetically-inherited disease that affects the nervous system. We are looking for someone who aspires to do research that builds a pathway to development of a therapy. There is no patient contact involved, but we are part of a larger team, and we work with other labs and with patient-oriented foundations. Our primary work is to study cultured cells that are engineered to express the mutated gene. For this we use many techniques: cell biology, molecular biology, enzyme assays, and microscopy. We also work with mutant mouse tissues that are shipped to us. Daily work will involve both a project and participation in the daily work of the lab.
