THIS POSITION MAY BE ELIGIBLE FOR AN EMPLOYMENT INCENTIVE, RELOCATION REIMBURSEMENT, AND TUITION LOAN REPAYMENT. The Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) is a 28-bed unit with cardiac monitoring available. This unit is currently under construction with plans to open in January 2022. The unit will provide progressive care to complex medical and surgical patients. The unit will care for a wide range of patients including patients with diabetic ketoacidosis, sepsis, multi-organ system failure, tracheostomies on home vents, disease processes requiring high flow and Bi-Pap oxygen delivery modalities, active gastrointestinal and esophageal bleeds, and patients requiring higher levels of nursing care related to complex wounds and frequent nursing interventions. The IMC is an inpatient status unit and cares for the more complex long-term patients. This unit may serve as overflow for ICU and patients may require continuous infusions of medications like norepinephrine, nicardipine, dexmedetomidine, and ketamine. The Cardiovascular Unit (CVU) will continue to manage the progressive care needs of cardiovascular patients. The IMC will be included in the Critical Care Services division. Nursing staff may float to other departments in critical care including the ICU and CVU. Under general supervision, utilizes the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation, and theoretical/clinical skills in the promotion/maintenance of health. Incorporates evidence-based nursing practices consistent with national standards and which support quality outcomes. Assumes responsibility and accountability for the quality of nursing care. What exactly does a radiology nurse do? Radiology nurses assist in a variety of procedures caring for patients from infancy to late adulthood. Modalities covered by radiology nurses include interventional radiology, CT, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, and MRI. Nursing assists physicians in providing moderate sedation for most procedures done in radiology. Common procedures include angiograms with intervention, port placements, mass biopsies, pediatric and adult anesthesia cases, and much more. Patient acuity varies from stable to ICU level of care patients making critical care experience preferred. What's the schedule like? In a typical week a nurse will work 4 10 hour shifts and cover a different modality each day creating a unique variety not easily found in other departments. Taking call is also a part of radiology nursing. A nurse is typically on call once a week, from the end of the shift until the beginning of the next morning, and one weekend every 4-6 weekends (depending on total number of nurses in the department). Nurses also divide up holidays to be on call, typically only 1-2 per year.
