The Licensed Practical Nurse is a key member of the care delivery team. The Licensed Practical Nurse communicates the needs of the patient and the team; collaborates with the multidisciplinary team, takes direction from the RN and delegates appropriately to the other members of the team.The Acute Medical Unit (5800) specializes in the care of patients with a wide array of medical diagnoses and multi-system problems. LPNs working on 5800 will have the opportunity to master their skills in caring for patients with the following acute illnesses & conditions: cardiac requiring telemetry, diabetes, kidney disease, dialysis, pulmonary issues, and patients with multiple drips, drains & catheters. LPNs on 5800 will also possess strong psychosocial skills to support patients with substance abuse and/or mental illness, in addition to their medical needs.
