Position Summary The Perioperative OR nurse is an individual who works with the patient being prepped for surgery, their family, and as a member of the interdisciplinary care team. The OR nurse helps to evaluate the patient, then plan and implement various steps to, during, and beyond surgery. The RN OR is responsible through nursing processes for providing and coordinating nursing care, and resource management for patients and families in the operating room. The RN OR Is responsible for providing direct patient care to patients and their families by applying and documenting the nursing process, patient assessment, and nursing diagnosis (planning, implementation and evaluation of interventions). The RN OR utilizes judgment and is guided by knowledge of basic principles of nursing based on the biological, physical and psycho-social sciences. Essential Job Functions/Accountabilities Compiles total nursing assessment within the initial shift or specific time frame. Assessment includes the following factors: biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational needs and discharge planning; Develops and implements a nursing plan of care based on identified nursing diagnosis, patient care needs and standards consistent with the therapies of other disciplines. Applies a systematic problem-solving approach in developing, implementing and evaluating nursing plans of care. Documents implementation of the plan of care and all nursing interventions. Evaluates the effectiveness of the plan of care and outcomes, making revisions as appropriate. Responsible for observing aseptic technique; for securing necessary instruments, supplies and equipment for surgical procedure in accordance to CCOC policy and the preference of surgeons. Responsible for compliance of narcotics management throughout Department. Demonstrates competency in basic nursing practice required to manage and provide total patient care through the application of CCOCs philosophy, policies and procedures. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in providing care in the surgical environment. Documents appropriately all patient care and outcomes. Prioritizes work and readily addresses changes in care needs. Maintains accountability while delegating responsibilities according to patient needs and staff competencies. Demonstrates and promotes effective communication skills and contributes to the efficient operation of the unit. Provides staff orientation, training, instruction, guidance, and supervision as necessary. Assists in teaching/competency maintenance/training of all team members. Shares ideas for improvement/revision of policies/procedures which would enhance the work environment and overall operation of the Department. Interprets clinical data and patient responses to care and collaborates with members of the health care team to provide comprehensive and coordinated patient care. Communicates pertinent information throughout all phases of the nursing process. Communicates effectively with physicians and other disciplines to exchange patient information and provide optimal care during the Perioperative experience. Participates in educational programs, serves on committees and seeks other opportunities for professional and personal growth and development. Participates in ongoing evaluation to ensure patient safety and quality during the continuum of care. All other duties not specifically assigned. Position Requirements Education: Graduate of a school of Nursing. Experience: Minimum Two (2) to four (4) years of OR experience preferred. Technical Skills: N/A Certifications/Licenses/Registrations: Current license to practice as registered nurse in the State of Ohio. BLS required.
RN Pre-Op PACU

Position Summary The Pre-Op PACU RN is responsible through nursing processes for providing and coordinating nursing care, and resource management for patients and families in the pre-operative and post-operative areas, providing direct patient care to patients and their families by applying and documenting the nursing process, assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation utilizing judgment and guided by knowledge of basic principles of nursing based on the biological, physical, and psycho-social sciences. Essential Job Functions/Accountabilities Ensures the nursing assessment is complete; uses input from the patient and/or family, develops a nursing plan of care based on identified nursing diagnosis, patient care needs, and standards. Applies a systematic problem-solving approach in developing, implementing, and evaluating nursing plans of care; Documents implementation of the plan of care and all nursing interventions. Utilizes Safe Surgery Checklist to ensure patient safety; Monitors patients vital signs; Performs IV therapy, venipunctures, and other procedures; Obtains specimens for testing as ordered; Facilitates physicians orders; Assesses patient symptoms that may indicate changes in condition. Communicates effectively with peers, physicians, and outside departments; Provides SBARQ style report to receiving unit. Demonstrates knowledge of Infection Control and Safety Policies and Procedures. Provides appropriate care to pre-op and post-op patients; Completes and documents necessary pre-op/post-op teaching of patient and family; Provides discharge instructions to patients. Practices with a questioning attitude; Shares ideas for improvement/revision of policies/procedures, which would enhance the work environment and overall operation within the division. Assists in teaching/competency maintenance/training of all team members; Delegates as appropriate to ancillary staff; Works as part of a team with co-workers; Facilitates flow of unit and manages staffing pars when in triage or T&P (triage and PRN) roles. Floats between pre-op and post-op areas as scheduled or needed; Responsible for unit specific duties and checks; Remains calm in urgent situations. Participates in educational programs, serves on committees and seeks other opportunities for professional and personal growth and development. All other duties not specifically assigned. Position Requirements Education: Graduate of a school of Nursing. B.S.N. preferred. Experience: Minimum One (1) to two (2) years of PACU/ICU/ER experience required. Demonstrated leadership experience. Technical Skills: N/A Certifications/Licenses/Registrations: Current license to practice as Registered Nurse in the State of Ohio; BLS required. ACLS required. PALS required within 6 months of hire.
