Position Overview We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Electrical Engineer with a strong background in light-wave telecommunications and high voltage systems. The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of technical experience with a track record of increasing levels of responsibility. Duties/Responsibilities Design, develop, and test electrical equipment and systems, including light-wave telecommunications systems and high voltage equipment. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers. Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, and work with vendors and contractors. Job Description Programming and troubleshooting of PLC and HMI programs using Rockwell RSLogix/Studio 5000, Rockwell PLC's 500 and Safety PLC's. Also, the high-speed motion, and positional controls using VFD's, DC, and Servos drives. Defining system architecture, component selection of PLCs, HMIs, Sensors (optical, proximity, ultrasonic), VFD & Servo drives and safety hardware. Update and integrate the plant-wide PLC and controls as needed. Understand and maintain the electrical portion of the manufacturing equipment in the factory, including PLC's, drive systems and controls, gauges, instrumentation. Provide calibration procedures and instructions for the above equipment. Assist Electricians, Technicians and Process engineers with troubleshooting production lines electrical and process problems. Support SubCom Quality and Manufacturing metrics goals. Maintain Manufacturing Equipment and Systems: Understand and maintain the electrical portion of the manufacturing equipment in the factory, including drive systems and controls, gauges, instrumentation, networked data acquisition equipment, and splice machines. Maintain Facility Power Distribution: Insure that the plant power distribution system is adequate for current and planned manufacturing activities. Recommends and oversees upgrades/improvements specifically focused on automation, process improvements, product quality, equipment reliability, and cost reductions. Working with applicable GMP, OSHA, NEC, NFPA, ANSI, and UL standards to ensure personnel, site, and systems safety requirements are met or exceeded. Updating production lines schematic and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD and updating calibration spims and technical manuals for Technician's and Electrician's support. Update and save the production lines PLC programs on a plant Network drive so that the backup is available when needed. Support EH&S Policies: Learn and support SubCom EH&S policies; insure that periodic department safety meetings are held to promote to promote safe work practices. Provide job specific electrical safety training as required. Support the use of LEAN Manufacturing tools in all areas of responsibility. LEAN tools should include 5S+1 in Office areas, and TPM on the manufacturing floor. Qualifications: Education: BS in Electrical Engineering Experience: Minimum 10 years of electrical engineering or electrical maintenance experience in a factory environment. Prior supervision/management experience preferred. Skills Required: Knowledge and/or experience with drive systems, industrial controls, power distribution system, and lighting systems. Experience and/or knowledge of calibration methods. Familiarity with NEC and OSHA electrical codes. Knowledge of equipment preventive and predictive maintenance procedures. Strong communication skills, team leadership skills and ability to provide technical leadership. Highly self-motivated, organized, with excellent attention to details. Knowledge of document control software applications (such as DOCS OPEN). Basic computer skills (Word, Excel) writing instructions and reports. Drafting experience (AutoCAD or other) would be a plus. Position Overview Optical Transmission System Test Engineer to define, plan, and execute test programs in support of the development and delivery of undersea optical transmission systems. The person will run transmission experiments over prototypes of long-haul fiber optic systems for validation and evaluation purposes. This work will also involve experimental programs to qualify designs and design processes for new systems and upgrades to installed fiber-optic systems. All aspects of optical communications will need to be covered in such work. Some travel will be required for field work. Key technologies driving the measurement programs are DWDM transmission, coherent detection transmission at rates above 100 Gb/s, optical amplifiers, nonlinear optical transmission in fibers, optical polarization effects, and OADM systems. Responsibilities Knowledge requied in optical transmission testing and optical component characterization, including optical gain and loss, OSNR, PMD, PDL, dispersion, nonlinear processes such as four-wave mixing, Raman gain, Brillouin scattering, BER, OSNR, eye diagrams, and related measurements. Candidate must be able to develop and use computer-aided test processes, and be able to analyze the results of his/her measurements. Candidate must be able to define test proposals and negotiate changes with the data customer, and write clear reports of the work done. Position Overview The Department of System Design and Product Management is looking for a software engineer to assist in developing and managing software simulations tools used to design high-capacity undersea fiber-optic networks. This person will work as part of the team of optical designers and project engineers responsible for delivery of undersea optical communication systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for introducing enhancements to the set of in-house software tools used for fiber-optics network design, optimization, evaluation, and implementation. This person will report directly to the Senior Manager of System Design and Product Management that is part of the Customer Solutions Organization within SubCom, and will collaborate with people from Research and Development, Sales, Project Management, Marine Operations and Manufacturing. The job offers opportunities for exploratory work on new technologies as well as design and implementation of new systems. Responsibilities Create new and update existent software tools. Assist engineers in troubleshooting code that incorporates numerical methods to simulate various physical effects. Update features of GUI based on feedback from the users. Manage software development cycle from collecting and documenting Modification Requests to working with senior engineers to incorporate changes, to preparing new releases, running testcases and publishing release notes. Perform updates to multiple software development packages via GitLab. Administer Linux server where the source code resides.
