Who are we looking for? GHD's Engineering Design Organization is seeking a Senior Design Manager/Americas Design Discipline Leader (ADDL). Ideally the candidate would be located in Greater Toronto Area, Montreal, or Orlando. This individual has over 20 years of experience in leading/managing design engineering project staff within a consulting engineering company. The candidate has proven experience in delivery of multi-discipline projects in various markets. The role requires the candidate to have excellent mentoring and communication skills, providing experience in training and the development and implementation of best practices and tools, and is a proven Senior Design Manager (i.e. Project Engineer or Project Engineering Manager). The candidate must have experience in managing and coordinating a technical team within a project to ensure quality, complete and on-time delivery, customer satisfaction, team coordination and team performance measures within a multidiscipline design project. In addition to being a proven Senior Design Manager, the individual will be in the ADDL role for Design Management. The ADDL is responsible for building the core Design Management practice by understanding the needs of the business including various project delivery types, building the image of and effective utilization of the DM role, leading the market awareness, fostering initiatives, and creating the value proposition of the Design Management discipline. The ADDL will lead the design management discipline practice area by working with the Regional DDLs to develop training, standards, delivery processes, and tools that enhance the design management practice. The ADDL will help Design Managers, Discipline Leads (Engineers, Architects, Designers, and technologists) to leverage the other Discipline Communities in the delivery processes needed to help win and deliver work for the Americas Business. Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in: Works closely with the EDO Leadership Team to develop Design Managers for the Americas Region. Leads the Americas Design Manager Practice/Discipline. Lead, develop and steward design management processes/tools to develop design management and discipline design staff. Train and develop high functioning Design Managers and support the improved performance of Design Teams in the execution of projects. Works with Region Design Manager DDLs (Design Discipline Leaders) on goals and priorities for the discipline. Manages the Design Management CDF (Career Development Framework) to ensure that we have qualified Design Managers and that training and mentoring programs support the CDF program. Maintains the Americas Design Manager Roster, ensuring annual reviews are taking place and that quarterly performance reviews incorporate CDF goals. Provide support to the global Major Projects and Global Delivery initiatives by providing input on the development of the design management functional requirements or any elements aligned to design management. Conducts project design reviews on the large and major projects as needed. Provides leadership on the appropriate implementation of BIM/Information Management applications and technologies. Coordinate with Quality Management Leads on internal quality processes ensuring that project delivery mandatory requirements are understood by all Design Managers Works closely with our PMO (Project Management Office) Leaders to ensure coordination between Design Management and our Project Management and Project Director practices. Proven portfolio of design management experience. What you bring to the team: Bachelor's (B.Sc.) degree or equivalent from a recognized college or university with a minimum of fifteen to twenty years broad and extensive technical, design management, administrative and project experience. Professional Engineer designation in a Canadian province or US state Experience in managing the design delivery for larger, multi-discipline projects in at least one of the following areas: Water/Wastewater Treatment, Solid Waste, Transportation Infrastructure, industrial/process plants/facilities, or buildings either for private or public clients. (CAPEX values above 50M) Knowledge and proven design management experience of alternative delivery such D for DB, Progressive Design Build, and P3 projects. Having experience in Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) or Alliance type contracts is a benefit. Knowledge of stage gates or milestone requirements throughout the project and the capital cost estimating techniques and classifications. Experience in developing and implementation of design management best practices and tools. Is fully versed in BIM/Information Management applications and technologies. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ability to deal with uncertainty, changes and multiple priorities.
