Keeps assigned areas clean.Operates belt filter presses by adjusting blended sludge feed rates; conditions blended sludge with polymers and ferric chloride or other chemicals; adjusts press mechanics; puts into and takes out of service presses to meet production requirements; samples and evaluates press feed sludge and discharge cake; takes and preserves samples for quality control and lab analysis.Operates press cake transfer belt conveyors.Performs normal operational maintenance, tension adjustments, and lubrication. Cleans press belts utilizing water wash spray systems provided or chemical cleaning as needed. Keeps areas around press floor and Press Area Control Center 3 (ACC-3) clean and clear of obstacles.Keeps on-going inventories and records as to chemicals on hand, usage, hours of operation of assigned equipment.Adjusts odor control equipment (hydrogen peroxide) and facility environment control equipment.Assists the Solids Processing Operator IVs in the operation of the dryers and/or presses by monitoring, inspecting, adjusting or changing over, as needed all equipment pertinent to the operation of the dryers or presses.Performs minor preventive maintenance, lubrication, and inspection as needed.Complies and distributes various operational logs and records as directed.Ensures proper operational modes in all areas assigned including dryer area, press area, classification area, chemical process and storage, and Milorganite storage.Keeps abreast of operational norms and modes of the press and dryer operation areas in order to meet relief responsibilities.Responds to emergency conditions that may arise in those areas relevant to the dewatering/drying/storage processes.Cleans and maintains areas of responsibility.Operate the Human Machine Interface (HMI) as needed.Maintain operating records and logs.Takes and evaluates samples for quality control and lab analysis.Coordinates operations with other operators in the facilities.Identifies problems in the area, troubleshoots, and records problems for reporting purposes.Performs other duties of a similar level and nature as assigned.Work Environment:Work is performed in an industrial environment and involves exposure to dust, odors, extremes in temperatures and humidity, noise; exposure to sewage, gases, process chemicals, moving equipment, and blended sludges.QualificationsEducation/Experience/Background:High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.Sufficient skills in reading, writing and mathematics to perform job duties.Environmental associate degree or higher, and/or Wastewater Operator Certification and/or two to three years' operating experience in a water/wastewater treatment plant.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:Ability to use a variety of hand tools and various testing equipment.Ability to enter data.Basic skills in computers and data input devices, email, application and office software.Communicates effectively via written and oral methods with co-workers, supervisors, managers, and others when necessary.Required Certification/Licenses/Training:Valid Wisconsin driver's license.Physical Requirements:While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and taste or smell.The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision and distance vision.Work Hours: Generally, works rotating 12-hour shifts.
