repair for complex research, medical, and teaching instrumentation by diagnosing issues with malfunctioning components and determining how to repair. ·         Troubleshoot and repair resistive capacitance circuit boards down to component level, determining what component needs to be repaired and determining the appropriate method for repair depending on the type of component: Hot-air soldering for micro-components (a more detailed and complex repair) or through-hole board component soldering and repair.·         Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programming for multiple types of controllers/chips, determining and implementing the appropriate coding for the electromechanical component.·         Installs, maintains and programs telemetry equipment and/or remote monitoring systems, such as those required in scientific freezers across campus.·         Compile quotes and perform repair cost analysis on damaged equipment, presenting estimates and repair options to customers across campus.·         Oversee phases of small to moderate projects coordinated through the Biology Service Facility.·         Collaborate with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) technicians to troubleshoot complex technical issues.·         Coordinate and supervise third party warranty repairs or service.·         Evaluate equipment needs and make cost effective decisions regarding organizational labor rate, material costs and availability, and equipment downtime.·         Develop departmental processes related to determination of how component repair should be handled and when the repair should be referred to this position, based on the complexity of the repair.Design, fabrication and installation:·         Designs and builds unique electronic prototypes utilized in various teaching and research fields, providing recommendations and guidance to PIs on the best approaches to achieve research needs and goals, fabricating needed components and ensuring proper functioning.·         Develops standard operating procedures for newly developed and designed prototypes, ensuring proper use and safety.·         Create Graphical User Interfaces (GUI) for system DescriptionIT Technician Regular, Full-time, Market Range 07, biweeklyThis position will support the department's IT domain and infrastructure; and perform installation, repairs and maintenance of computers, servers, and printers, and associated peripherals and equipment.  They are expected to implement IT hardware and software solutions to meet the needs of faculty, students, and graduate students for use in instructional and research projects in the Department of Chemistry.  Such projects will involve researching and identifying Computer and equipment specifications, for the purpose of utilizing data collection hardware and software.  More Specific Responsibilities Include:Computer, server, and printer maintenance and support·         Respond to computer, server, or printer issues within the department·         Troubleshoot and repair computer systems and network printers·         Support software updates on departmental assets·         Install hardware upgrades to computers and associated devices·         Maintenance of server hardware and software·         Update and ensure license servers are current and operational·         Maintain continuity among other staff by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.  Communicate status of projects to the customers, including indicating delays and reasons for delays.  Document actions by completing production and quality logs.  Create and manage assets on local domain and in Windows Active Directory (AD)·         Register computers, servers, and printers within OIT's registry system·         Add computers, servers, and printers into Window's AD·         Create, Modify, and update user groups·         Implement and manage data storage solutions for user groups·         Ensure new computers comply with Departmental security planNew computer, server, and printer installations·         Unpack and setup new computers, servers, and printers·         Install Windows, MocOS, and Linux/Unix operating systems·         Identify and install specific software for departmental faculty, staff, and students·         Directly move research data and department specific software, to support user transition from old to new computer·         Create new license servers utilizing computer/server hardware and software and virtual machinesDepartmental specific tasks·         Support and repair of simple electronic devices for chemlabs·         Fill Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) devices with liquid nitrogen and liquid helium·         Move equipment and furniture between labs/buildings·         Assist in chemistry labs tear down and clean up·         Aid in disposal of surplus equipmentQualificationsRequirements:·         Education: Vocational or technical training/certificates in Information Technology; training in Windows Active Directory; minimum of three years of experience in helpdesk/network troubleshooting and repair. DescriptionIT Technician – Technical Innovative Solutions (TIS)Haslam College of Business Regular Full-Time, Market Range 7(MULTIPLE POSITIONS)The Haslam College of Business (HCB) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, invites applications for an IT Technician (Full-time, Non-exempt) in the Technical Innovative Solutions (TIS) department.  Reporting to the Assistant Director of Computer Support, this position will be responsible for maintaining the operational integrity of the information technology (IT) end user computer equipment and resources in the Haslam Business Building and Stokely Management Center building.  The work includes, but is not limited to, advanced configuring, modifying, troubleshooting, and repairing computers, peripherals and supporting IT equipment. Support also includes participating in problem resolution and proactive problem solving, including occasional use of PowerShell to automate computer updates and maintenance processes.  Assists users with more complex problems by performing local and remote testing. QualificationsResponsibilities:Computer ManagementServe as a College contact point providing oversight for HCB computer management for all HCB staff, faculty, team room, loaner and conference room computers.  Works in coordination with AV personnel who manage classroom setups, including computers. Using asset management solution to keep HCB computers patched, update EOL (end of life) operating systems, schedule AV, browser, and software update roll-outs to all computers.  Respond to vulnerability status update requests and document progress.
