Hospital-Chartered Explorers Honored Nationally Friday, March 17, 2006 Hawk Mountain Council's Explorer Post 275, chartered to The Reading Hospital, received the 2006 Harold "Spike" Yoh Award at a ceremony earlier this month in Dallas, TX. The Harold "Spike" Yoh Award is a national award given to a post which exemplifies excellence in delivering the Explorer program. Post 275 represents the Northeast Region. In its 20th year, Post 275 has more than 400 registered members, many of whom are from the City of Reading. Remaining members are from surrounding suburban and rural schools. And over its two-decade existence, Post 275 has had more than 1,000 members. Post 275 offers its member an inside look at various medical careers including cardiac and vascular services, nursing, respiratory care, physical and occupational medicine, clinical laboratory science, radiology, and surgical technology. Hospital personnel from these specialties provide presentations, and offer tours of their respective departments. Although exact numbers aren't available, Post 275 officials say it's likely that many students from diverse backgrounds entered various medical career fields because of experiences gained from their post membership.
