What We Do:
Infrastructure DevelopmentImproving the state’s electrical infrastructure is a pressing concern for the Power Authority. As steward of New York’s largest hydropower resources, we are investing hundreds of millions of dollars into life extension and modernization work at our generating facilities that will help provide the state with reliable supplies of clean, low-cost electricity well into the 21st century.NYPA is also taking steps to strengthen New York’s transmission network, so the electricity from new and existing generation sources can serve consumers throughout the state. As part of a 10-year plan, we are considering a variety of new transmission projects while preparing to upgrade our own system of high-voltage power lines that covers 1,400 circuit-miles.The Power Authority is also involved with the development of Governor Paterson’s draft State Energy Plan, especially its emphasis on promotion of a new clean energy economy.
