The Cardiac Transplant Nurse provides holistic patient care, including assessment, education, and advocacy, while also serving as a liaison between patients, their families, and the transplant team. Expertise is required in the specific area of kidney transplantation and laparoscopic donor nephrectomy. Applicants must have an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent degree. They must also be certified by the American Board of Surgery or hold equivalent international certification, and have completed an ASTS accredited multi-organ transplant fellowship.Teaching responsibilities may include instruction of medical students, surgical residents and transplant fellows.Clinical responsibilities may include duties in the specialty areas noted above.Research or scholarship responsibilities may include studies in the noted specialties and/or associated scientific fields.
