Student Nurse Technician

Position Summary The Student Nurse Technician supports the patient care team by performing multifunctional activities such as direct patient care (under the direction of a Registered Nurse), day-to-day upkeep of the Nursing Units, OR, and patient discharges. This is an entry level nursing position within the following departments: Inpatient Med/Surg, PreOp/PACU, OR. Essential Job Functions/Accountabilities Assists patients with activities of daily living. Assists patients with bathing and/or showering. Assists patient with menu completion and calls for trays from room service. Notifies the registered nurse if the patient has not received a meal tray. Prepares patient and environment for meals, passes trays and assists patients with meals as patients needs require, document intake, I/O calorie count and vitals (TPRs, empties Foley output, % of meals, measurement of intake in ccs). Collects trays, prepares and delivers nourishments to assigned patient, provides water, ice and all between meal dietary needs to patients, orders and maintains standard stock foods, cleans/maintains patient refrigerator and updates refrigerator temperature log as assigned. Identifies and reports unusual occurrences and/or abnormal findings to the patients nurse in a timely manner. Distributes clean linen and collects dirty linen, stocks linens in cupboard/hall carts. Observes and reports maintenance defects that need repair, adjustment or replacement. Makes beds and performs other special housekeeping duties as may be required. Assists with patient transfers and discharges, including removal of equipment for patient rooms post-discharge. Properly identifies and escorts patient to pre-op or pre-testing areas. Obtains patient vital signs. Provides positive patient interaction. Disinfects bed/chair/area/equipment after patient use. Stocks pre-op area with pretesting area supplies. Restocks bedside with necessary items. Stocks blanket warmer. Makes beds and performs other special housekeeping duties as required. Replaces sharps containers when full. Communicates with Pre-Op/PACU manager if laundry items appear to be over or under stocked. Obtains supplies from stock room as requested. Performs miscellaneous errands, such as transporting specimens, documents etc. Performs other patient care support activities as needed. Completes assignment and makes changes as situation warrant, as directed by the RN. Supports other direct caregivers as needed. Transports assigned patients throughout all areas of the hospital as directed, to include lifting and assisting from bed to wheelchairs and back as may be required. Supports other direct caregivers as needed, under the direction of a RN by assisting with activities of daily living. Supports other team members by answering the phone and assist the unit secretary as directed. All other duties not specifically assigned.
