Asphere Cell Operator

This is an afternoon shift with shift differential.Manufacturing of fused silica aspheric optics from a blank into a polished optic. Responsible for the set-up and operation of a CNC generator, polisher, magnetorheological polisher, metrology and inspection equipment. The machine set-up requires selection of correct tooling and adjustment of the CNC program to produce the specified optic. Proper selection of tools and processing parameters, together with a trained eye for inspection is critical to the successful machining of these components. They will be responsible for controlling and verifying all critical specifications such as thickness, wedge, bevel size, surface figure, surface finish and roughness. The operator is also responsible for cleaning, final inspection and documentation of all optics produced in the asphere cell. They must be able to read and understand all applicable paperwork (i.e. drawings, work instructions, inspection reports, etc) to identify correct processing of parts. Primary Duties & Responsibilities Generate optics to the required specifications for final polishing. Polish and MRF optics to meet all required specifications as shown on the drawing. All optics must be handled in proper manner as to prevent damage to the parts. Understand and utilize the correct machine setup, selection of tools, and CNC program adjustment in order to produce the required optic. Responsible for controlling and verifying critical dimensions of finished components (i.e. center thickness, wedge, surface figure, surface finish, roughness, etc). Must be knowledgeable in the metrology for measuring plano, spherical and aspheric optics. Parts are routinely measured and documented to guarantee that all parts produced meet specification. Responsible for cleaning and inspecting optics to the customer's requirements. Process notes are maintained in a log book in order to record key manufacturing parameters and issues. Log book notes and verbal communication between shifts is detailed and accurate. Production activities are wanded accurately. Quality documentation is completed as required and machine maintenance and incident reports are completed when necessary. The operator must be able to work independently to solve minor problems. Where appropriate the nature and solution to the problem should be reported to the supervisor or shift lead.Housekeeping / MaintenanceAll areas are maintained in an organized and tidy manner. Responsible for the set-up and operation of a CNC generator, polisher, magnetorheological polisher, metrology and inspection equipment. The machine set-up requires selection of correct tooling and adjustment of the CNC program to produce the specified optic. Proper selection of tools and processing parameters, together with a trained eye for inspection is critical to the successful machining of these components. They will be responsible for controlling and verifying all critical specifications such as thickness, wedge, bevel size, surface figure, surface finish and roughness. The operator is also responsible for cleaning, final inspection and documentation of all optics produced in the asphere cell.
