Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task. Sample and test mixtures for compliance with contract specifications and quality control tolerance. Prepare and record accurate information; maintain test results data base. Assist internal and external customers in a timely manner Obtain required certifications in a timely manner. Follow quality control plans or guidelines as assigned. Perform general cleaning of work areas. Lift, carry and hold materials, tools and supplies. Perform other duties as assigned. Work Requirements The ideal candidate will: Pass pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check. Pass a pre-employment "Fit for Work" physical. Able to stand, walk, use hands and fingers to manipulate objects or controls, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk and hear. May require sitting for extended periods of time. Lift, carry and hold materials, tools and supplies. Vision abilities (with correction) include close, distance, peripheral, depth, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to hold weights of 5-10lbs in a stretched arm position for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift 75 lbs (minimum) on a repetitive basis. Able to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time. Be able to provide valid documentation for the I-9 Immigration document. Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors and the general public at all times. Be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary. Report to work at the designated start time. Be able to work overtime when required. Be willing to work outdoors in extreme temperatures, both hot and cold. Must have valid driver's license and meet the qualifications of the fleet safety program. Strictly adhere to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook. APAC-Central, Inc. and its founding companies have been serving our customers since early in the 20th Century and look forward to continued success in the 21st Century!Position Overview The Mechanic will be responsible for performing all needed inspections and repairs on Ready Mix Trucks, On-Highway End Dump Trucks, Tractors and Trailers, and Heavy Construction Equipment in a safe, effective manner.Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions) Analyzes malfunctions and repairs, rebuilds, and maintains equipment. Operates and inspects machines and equipment to diagnose defects. Dismantles and reassembles equipment, using hoists, as well as hand and power tools. Examines parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges. Replaces defective engines and subassemblies, such as transmissions, electric motors, drums, seals, hydraulic pumps, valves, pistons, rods, gears, crankshafts, cylinder blocks, etc. Tests overhauled equipment to ensure operating efficiency (must be able to operate all equipment). Welds broken parts and structural members. Directs workers engaged in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment. Performs record keeping of time and parts used on the appropriate forms. Plans work procedures and/or possible solutions such as part redesign, substitution of material or parts and rearrangement of parts or subassemblies. Performs general cleaning of work areas and maintenance areas. Assists other maintenance department staff in performing the duties necessary to assure the efficiency of operations of vehicles. Define, implement and utilize current Work Order processes to effectively manage and track all equipment repairs. Implement and ensure effectiveness of repair processes. PM/Lube process and system in place to ensure timely maintenance on fleet. Maintain Federal, State and local compliance with all DOT laws and regulations including annual DOT inspections Maintain awareness and compliance with all MSHA and OSHA regulations affecting shop and equipment operations Track, manage and reduce all re-active repairs on break downs, door calls and service calls. Oversee VCR/VIR process to ensure effective inspections are being performed daily and repairs completed. Communicate with local vendors to ensure effective outsourced repairs. Utilize Sourcing teams input on any significant purchases or agreements. Annual inspection process to ensure scheduled maintenance to reduce downtime. Ensure employee driven safety culture is in place and effective. Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required. Other duties may be assigned. Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience Minimum of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. Two year certificate from college or technical school. Certificate or degree in heavy equipment maintenance and repair preferred. Experience working with electronic equipment management systems preferred. Three to six months of heavy equipment maintenance experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL), class A or B, and satisfactory driving record is preferred. Work Requirements Must be 18 years in age or older. Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check. Must possess valid DOT medical card if applicable.
