Perform necessary emergency operating procedures and take proper corrective action for continuous effective operation of the water purification plants / groundwater systems. Maintain all necessary records, tools and work equipment. Perform maintenance and custodial duties at production facilities. Perform light construction projects as needed, including carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, masonry, etc. Specify and initiate orders for parts and supplies. Assume duties of plant operator in the absence of the operator as needed. Delivery, loading, unloading and placing into storage water treatment plant chemicals, including chemical receiving and inventory. Maintain grounds, buildings, roadways, screens, reservoirs and right-of-ways. Position is subject to 24 hour call-out and overtime. Knowledge/Skills Two years experience in the water/wastewater maintenance field or other applicable mechanical/electrical experience. Mechanical ability sufficient to understand the operation of pumps, valves, motors and other mechanical equipment related to plant operation and maintenance. Ability to obtain Waterworks Operators Certificate (Plant Specific) within one to three years, depending on class. Knowledge of basic scientific and water purification concepts. Must possess a valid PA driver's license with the ability to pass a motor vehicle check.. Communicate in an effective manner both oral and written with the general public and company personnel. Read and understand instructions, safety rules, etc. Required mathematical skills sufficient to be able to calculate dosages, surface areas, volumes, weights, measures and algebraic formulas. Change easily and frequently from job tasks. Use good personal judgment and specialized knowledge when handling situations and interactions. The ability to troubleshoot instrumentation and control systems by using specialized testing equipment is preferred. Experience/Education Prior experience operating & maintaining equipment in an industrial setting is preferred. Prior water treatment experience is desirable. High School graduate or state recognized education equivalency certificate required. Technical college course work and/or degree in electrical, electronics or applicable engineering curriculum is desirable.
