Community Health Workers report to the Site Director of the Early Childhood Supports and Services (ECSS) office. Community Health Workers (CHWs) are responsible for making contact with families identified as needing assistance from ECSS. CHWs will assist families with identifying support and mental health needs, registering them with the ECSS clinic, supporting families as they obtain needed services, and will be the liaison for the families and their infant and early childhood mental health clinician. CHWs will attend ECSS Network partner meetings and support the families in their interactions with outside agencies, checking in with families regularly to ensure that their needs are being met. Cowen Institute For Public Education InitiativesLocation: New Orleans, LASummaryThe Staff Instructor, under the supervision of the Director and Assistant Director, will facilitate and teach core academic courses in English at Upward Bound. Courses are designed to provide participants with the rigorous academic skills, study habits, and discipline necessary for success at the post-secondary level. The curriculum and the development of the course will be based on national standards and metrics of college readiness with an emphasis in project-based learning. In addition, instructors will assist in the role of a college coach and work with participants on college readiness skills on area of college applications, financial literacy, 21st century soft skills, ACT review, and other necessary components. These components are designed to ease the transition from secondary to post-secondary education. The coach will also assist the counselor in college planning and career exploration activities that allows participants cross curriculum learning within academic courses and align future career goals to college planning.   The Upward Bound program, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, is a college prep program that focuses on college completion for first generation and low-income students. The program seeks to address the needs of these students and to increase the rates of post-secondary acceptance, enrollment and graduation. Upward Bound's evidence-based model consist of instrumental academic support services, including weekly academic classes, tutoring and mentoring, ACT test preparation, individual counseling, social and emotional learning, financial aid workshops for students and their parents, college prep seminar, and scholarship workshops, college tours, career exploration events, financial literacy, and internships. In addition, a six-week summer component reinforces the work. Students commit the program the four years in high school and receive support during their post-secondary years. The Upward Bound program is a part of the College and Career Success Team at the Cowen Institute at Tulane University.
