Job Summary Vertiv is hiring an Associate Controls Engineer in Minneapolis, MN to direct, design, develop, test and resolve issues with control systems and components for HVAC equipment operation. Discipline focuses on HVAC equipment operation utilizing Direct Digital Control (DDC) Systems and tools provided by the chosen DDC hardware and software supplier. POSITION SUMMARY Vertiv is hiring a System Failure Analysis Engineer in Westerville, Ohio to generate Customer Root Cause Analysis Reports for Vertiv UPS systems. This includes analysis of site failures, field findings, define factory parts testing requirements, coordinate supplier or third-party lab analysis, review test results, and develop final report with conclusions and recommendations for both the customer and for Vertiv internal quality or design improvements. RESPONSIBILITIES Generate Root Cause Analysis reports for UPS systems. Review all pertinent data for site failures including, but not limited to repairs and findings from field engineers, alarm downloads, other site monitoring data, service history, site configuration, and load profile. Perform site visits as directed to aid in the failure analysis process during the repair by field engineers. Based on symptom analysis, identify primary failed components for factory testing to determine the root cause of the failure. Write the test scripts for the Vertiv factory test technicians, follow up on the test results, and identify further testing as required to arrive at a root cause. Engage parts suppliers if necessary to further identify the root cause of a component failure and identify corrective actions. Maintain contact with the supplier's engineering and quality associates during the analysis process to ensure the results meet Vertiv' s goal of identifying the root cause. Investigate the use of third-party testing labs and offer recommended test script to further aid in determining the cause of the component failure. Use fish-bone analysis, and other similar tools, to identify all possible causes for a failure and communicate the results in the customer-facing report. Work closely with Vertiv Engineering to define and test computer simulation models as necessary, using MatLab and SimuLink, to aid in the root cause analysis. Complete Preliminary, Interim, Final, and Follow-up customer reports including details on all parts analysis, log or site data analysis, conclusions as to root cause of the site failure, and recommended corrective actions (site, Vertiv internal, and supplier). Complete 8D analysis, with supporting documentation, if required. Attend customer conference calls or site visits (if required) to explain failures and findings. Provide technical consultation to field personnel, other Power Technical Support associates, Vertiv engineering or quality associates. Compile and monitor failure analysis data and identify repeated failure trends. Offer recommendations for continuous improvement. This includes improvements and proactive actions for design of Vertiv products, manufacturing processes, and supplier issues. Report regularly to Vertiv Services, engineering, and quality departments on failure trends and outstanding actions. Participate in product performance reviews including weekly Uptime, and cross-functional (internal Vertiv) conference calls. POSITION SUMMARY The Application Engineer, HVAC Controls provides pre-sales technical expertise to the sales team and customers during the sales process focused around chilled water systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in Chilled Water Systems and Operation, Control Theory, Advanced HVAC Controls and BMS or BAS protocols. The Application Engineer provides technical input into bid proposals, projects and technical documents within the sales process and identifies additional sales opportunities with existing customers. The Application Engineer collaborates with sales teams to develop and recommend products and services to meet customers' requirements. RESPONSIBILITIES Assist in developing clear, concise, and technically sound tailored solutions for customer review and acceptance based on customer requirements and/or RFP's, ensuring proper scope and required technical specifications are met. Perform equipment selections and technical calculations to meet requirements of complete chilled water system applications specifically for the electrical and control system. Full understanding of controls theory and operation of the iCOM-S CW Manager Apply Quote Configurator tool to provide comprehensive quote support. Assist in the review of custom thermal management service & solution orders and provide technical instruction throughout the order workflow. Review Order Entry requests and assign work tickets to the correct service competency. Provide monthly updates on quote requests, turnaround times, closure rates for requests. Provide leadership in the area of Chilled Water Equipment, HVAC controls and BMS integration to Vertiv thermal management equipment. Participate in new product development projects. Other duties as required. Use engineering Tools such as Oracle CPQ and legacy systems (Partnerweb, LRS, SMS, LES) to develop sales proposals in support to the Cooling business for Vertiv representatives. Review project specifications, drawings, RFPs and SOO to determine best solutions for customer critical space needs. Create and develop Project electrical and control submittals, schematics, SOO (sequence of operations), MOPs (method of procedure) and any other technical information required by the customer. QUALIFICATIONS 2+ years Commercial or relevant Industrial experience. Experience in Chilled Water Systems and Operation, Control Theory and advanced HVAC controls and BMS protocols. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Detail-oriented. Ability to work and multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Understanding of commercial infrastructure design objectives, performance factors, and physical requirements. Ability to read and interpret schematics and one-line diagrams.
