The Vice President for Online Strategy and Innovation will oversee the continued strategic development, infrastructure, programming, and staff management necessary to expand Fairfield University’s fully online, hybrid and blended program offerings. Reporting to the President and working closely with the Provost and the SVP for Finance and Administration, the Vice President for Online Strategy and Innovation will serve as the strategic lead for online education and support broader strategic initiatives related to access and geographic expansion. This leadership position will effectively partner with Academics, Enrollment Management, Marketing and Communications, and Information Technology Services as they continue to engage in the delivery of new programs through new modalities. Further, the position will provide administrative oversight over all external partner relationships and contracts related to online program operations, procedures, and initiatives. The primary goal of the position is to work with campus partners to manage the internal online organization, with supporting infrastructure, while simultaneously implementing a portfolio of sustainable online programs. This portfolio will constitute an aggressive growth agenda, including degree programs; as well as credit and non-credit courses and certificates. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Through collaboration with university stakeholders, implement our strategic plan to profitably grow the portfolio of online and hybrid programs; and to develop and manage budgets and expenditures aligned with growth objectives. Oversee the growth of an internal distance learning organization and its supporting infrastructure. Manage all external partnerships and alliances necessary to develop scalable online and hybrid program capabilities. Provide regularly scheduled progress updates to senior administration and the University Board. Be accountable to senior administration and the Board for all aspects of strategy, design, implementation, execution, costs, partnerships, etc. Through industry connections and research, identify and respond to emerging trends and conduct needs analyses that offer opportunities for new programming and services. Benchmark and network with colleagues across higher education and at peer institutions to build more effective operations, programs and practices. Collaborate with Academics and Enrollment Management to identify ways online programming can build on the strengths of existing programs and through interdisciplinary partnerships; identify opportunities in emerging markets/ communities. Partner with Marketing & Communications and external service providers to market and to grow programs. Provide oversight and quality control for communications about programs and courses on relevant web sites and other communications channels. Partner with Information Technology Services to ensure that computing infrastructure supports the academic and co-curricular needs of on-line learners. Monitor and assess financials, program enrollment patterns and trends, student satisfaction and success, and other key health and performance indicators to improve programs and the student experience, to optimize return-on-investment, and to otherwise inform decision-making in the best interest of students, programs, and the university. Represent the university in campus initiatives related to innovative online learning environments. Promote and facilitate effective practices in online program and course development, including the use of established and emerging technologies. Oversee the assessment of online programs and courses. Identify ways to streamline, make consistent, and otherwise optimize processes (e.g., student services, scheduling, marketing, data analytics, etc.) across the university. POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Desired Qualifications: 8 - 10 years’ experience with on-line or alternative instruction delivery in higher education Experience in the marketing, recruitment, and enrollment of students in on-line or alternative higher education programs. Experience overseeing instructional design, curriculum development, and instructional media for online and blended programs in a higher education setting. Experience with external partnerships and the general management of online operations. Experience in developing and providing services to students, faculty, and staff engaged in online and innovative programs. Research experience in areas of higher education, policy, and technology.
