Research Technician III - Virology Lab The Silva Lab at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a highly motivated, reliable, and detail-oriented Research Technician to be an integral part of a dynamic research team, conducting independent and collaborative research in a virology-focused laboratory with a diverse and cooperative atmosphere. We study various facets of chikungunya virus, a mosquito-borne virus that causes a severe febrile illness characterized by acute and chronic musculoskeletal manifestations. The position will include performing supervised and independent research at BSL2 and A-BSL3 conditions consisting of 1) tissue culture and virological assays; 2) molecular biology-based assays to uncover mechanisms of viral replication; and 3) pathogenesis studies using murine models of disease.The incumbent will provide research support to other members of the team and will manage an independent research project, given sufficient training, familiarity, and proficiency. Primary scientific tasks will include conducting complex lab experiments, helping to develop research methods and procedures, maintaining detailed experimental notes, and organizing data and laboratory samples.
