Job opportunities in Nebraska
Traditionally, most state of Nebraska jobs were in agriculture. Wheat, soybeans, cattle and pigs are still major sources of income for the state, though agriculture employs a far smaller share of the population than it did in the past. Many of today’s jobs are in food production, with grain elevators, slaughterhouses and food processors like Tyson Foods, Conagra Foods, Hormel and Smithfield Foods major employers across the state.
The railroads like Union Pacific Corporation and Eppley Airfield, all hiring a lot. Warren Buffet, sometimes called the Oracle of Omaha, is credited with building up a number of financial services companies in Nebraska like Berkshire Hathaway, TD Ameritrade and Mutual of Omaha.
Offut Air Force Base near Omaha is home to over 8,000. It is best known as headquarters for U.S. Strategic Command. Employment on base is restricted to American citizens. The large military investment has created many Nebraska jobs, with the telecommunications industry building up a number of call centers and networking hubs in Omaha. There are thousands of Nebraska state jobs at First Data, Qwest Corporation, CSG Systems, InfoUSA, All Native Systems and Bass and Associates. Education is another source of Nebraska jobs, with local school districts and colleges like the University of Nebraska creating large number of vacancies.
