History:

A Brief History The University of Cincinnati Foundation is the private sector fund-raising entity for the University of Cincinnati and its campuses, colleges, departments and units. The Foundation is charged to encourage philanthropy for the University and to secure and steward contributions in support of UC's education, research and service goals. The Foundation was established in 1975 as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit corporation and has the Internal Revenue Service identification number 31-0896555. Gifts to UC through The University of Cincinnati Foundation are tax-deductible to the full extent provided by law. Why a Foundation? Most state universities have separately incorporated foundations for the purpose of raising, receiving, recording and disbursing gifts and grants from private (non-government) sources. As UC entered the state system in 1977, the University and the donor community felt that a foundation would be a valuable asset. The Foundation assures donors that their gifts are being used in accord with their intentions. The Foundation does not determine the use of gift funds. Funds raised are allocated according to restrictions established by donors. If gifts are made without donor restrictions, allocation is determined by the University.
