Company description "Huntington Learning Center"

Overview:

In 1977 Dr. Raymond and Eileen Huntington opened the first Huntington Learning Center in Oradell, NJ, because they recognized a need to offer high quality tutoring to students of all ages. Eileen, who holds a Masters Degree from Rutgers University, first taught in The Bronx in New York City and then in Bound Brook, NJ, teaching social studies to students in grades 7 through 12. After college and while serving in the National Guard, Ray worked as a computer programmer. He later obtained his Doctorate in Statistics from Rutgers University, where he taught both undergraduate and graduate-level math and statistics courses. He then worked for several years as a statistician. Eileen and Ray were motivated to open their first learning center in 1977 by their deep interest in teaching and the joy they received from working with students. They worked hard to develop and refine the curricula and instructional methodologies needed to work with a wide variety of students of all grades and needs. At the same time, they were successful in recruiting a strong, dedicated staff who shared their beliefs and interests. With this staff, they began opening additional centers in the New York and Philadelphia metropolitan areas. Beginning in 1985, they began offering others the opportunity to join the Huntington System as franchisees. Today, thanks to Huntington Learning Center's phenomenal success in helping students at every level, the company has grown to include hundreds of locations nationwide. Eileen and Ray still run the company with their able staff, many of whom have been with the company for decades.

Mission:

TO GIVE EVERY STUDENT THE BEST EDUCATION POSSIBLE This simple statement is the criterion by which all decisions are made - what is best for the student guides all decisions. Each center's director must make dozens - even hundreds - of decisions about how best to guide a student to achieve her or his goals. In every case, the criteria by which the director makes those decisions is our mission statement and our code of ethics. These decisions involve the kind of program the director recommends, the tutor to be assigned to work with the student, the curricula to be used, the program duration, and many, many more decisions. By understanding what's best for the student, the director can make the best decision possible.
