Company description

BayCare was formed in 1997 when the leading not-for-profit hospitals in the Tampa Bay area came together, united by a common mission to improve the health of all they serve. The hospitals knew that in order to remain competitive, they had to keep providing patients with more, while spending less, to keep pace with health care's rapidly changing fiscal environment. As a united health system, BayCare's nine hospitals save money by consolidating and sharing duplicative non-patient care services, such as purchasing, human resources and financial services. As a result, BayCare saved more than $90 million in its first five years, far exceeding the stated financial goals when the health system was formed. In addition to cost savings, BayCare also created a very unique model for a successful health system. BayCare is a joint operating agreement between three Community Health Alliances, or CHAs. The name reflects both their community hospital status and the way they work together - hospitals and health services - to better the communities they serve. Each CHA focuses on the distinct needs of their community and taps into the regional system for improved Quality, better access and greater efficiencies.BayCare's CHA's are:Morton Plant Mease Health Care, which includes Mease Countryside Hospital, Mease Dunedin Hospital, Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater, and Morton Plant North Bay Hospital in Pasco County. St. Anthony's Health Care, which includes St. Anthony's Hospital in St. Petersburg. St. Joseph's-Baptist Health Care, which includes St. Joseph's Hospital, St. Joseph's Children's Hospital, St. Joseph's Women's Hospital in Tampa, and South Florida Baptist Hospital in Plant City. BayCare Announces Online Quality Report CardCLEARWATER, Fla. (Aug. 23, 2007) – BayCare Health System recently launched its Quality Report Card, an easy-to-use online tool designed to provide the community with increased access to national quality data. Click here to download a list of Frequently Asked Questions about the new Web site. The new site embodies BayCare’s commitment to finding new and better ways to inform the public about the quality of care delivered at its nine leading not-for-profit hospitals. The web address is“Because quality goes directly to the heart of who we are and what we do, we decided that a great way to celebrate BayCare’s first 10 years is to provide our communities with a Quality Report Card,” said Steve Mason, BayCare’s president and CEO. “We are proud of our quality efforts and eager to share them with our communities. We also feel that public reporting will help us continue improving our high quality.”The goal of the new web site is to help patients become more involved in their health care by using consumer-friendly health information and tools. The Quality Report Card uses the same evidence-based, nationally-accepted process of care measures reported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). In addition to providing its hospitals’ raw scores for each quality measure, BayCare also adopted a statistical formula to provide quick comparisons with the national averages. The site uses color-coding to show when a hospital’s score is significantly different from the U.S. average. Where an opportunity was identified, BayCare provided a concise “Improvement Plan” to describe what efforts are underway to improve that score.“We hope our communities will use the Quality Report Card to learn how well our hospitals cared for patients with certain common medical conditions and surgical procedures, and how our performance compared to hospitals around the country and the state,” Mason said. “We are proud of BayCare’s tradition of quality care and our team members who make it all possible.”###BayCare Health System is a family of health care providers consisting of the nine leading not-for-profit hospitals in the Tampa Bay area.
