Position requires willingness to learn, and the ability to follow directions concerning painting in the marine industry. May be required to perform additional duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor for the completion of the job in a safe and timely manner.Essential Job Requirements: Make certain surfaces are prepared for coating according to paint manufacturers’ specifications; paint surfaces using approved methods, striping tanks in a productive and timely manner as well as mixing paint as directed; must work within OSHA requirements relative to the shipbuilding industry; must comply with company, federal, state, and local safety and environmental rules and regulations; accurately operate, clean, and maintain all assigned equipment; properly store equipment; dispose of empty paint and solvent cans appropriately; properly store and take appropriate precautions for paint and solvents as directed by supervisor; knowledgeable in checking wet film mil (WFT) thickness being applied; assist sprayers in pulling lines; must be able to correctly and promptly follow directions. May be required to perform additional duties as deemed necessary by the supervisor for the completion of the job in a safe and timely manner.Required Education: NoneRequired Experience: Formal or informal on the job training and two years of experience in the application of coatings in the marine industry.Required Skills: Ability to take direction required. MGX Blaster/Painters are responsible for the paint restoration of heavy equipment models performing blasting and painting utilizing coating to specified contract requirements. This position will be located at the Birmingham, Alabama branch for MGX Equipment Services and reports to the Service Manager. *Candidates hired for this role will receive a $3,500 sign-on bonus, payable after 90 days continuous service.* ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Spray paint and sand blast heavy equipment using spray gun and sandblasting equipment. Clean grease, dirt, rust, and old paint from equipment using solvent, water, rags, brushes, pneumatic wire brush and chipping hammer. Maintain and clean paint and blasting materials. Prepare equipment for painting and blasting restoration; tape and mask equipment; mix paint and color match. Inspect finished product for overall quality. Other duties as assigned. JOB REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or GED preferred with a minimum of three (3) years of prior paint experience. Must be able to perform blasting and painting applications as directed by supervision. Must have knowledge in the use of conventional component application in painting/blasting tools not limited to paint guns, sanding tools and material blasters, grinding tools, etc. Must be able to perform all blast requirements and functions utilizing all application methods and identify and correct blast and paint deficiencies as required by the specifications. Sandblasters must have experience with the use of a variety of blast media. HEALTH & SAFETY REQUIREMENTS: Perform job functions in a safe manner. Wear all Personal Protective Equipment (P.P.E.) required by Company policy for the job being performed.
